What can you do to expedite the process of mediation?

When you are facing a tough divorce in Kentucky, one of the first resources you may consider is mediation. This process is designed to help couples make decisions regarding their property and ownership of that property. Often, if left alone, you and your ex may find these decisions to be contentious and unfair and oftentimes, completely unproductive. With the help of a third-party, you and your former spouse can explore what options are available and make important decisions in a controlled environment. Keeping the process moving smoothly is doable when you are fully prepared.

The Huffington Post suggests that exploring mediation is never a bad idea. In fact, it can end up being a decision that provides financial and emotional relief in the long run. As you prepare for your first mediation session, here are some of the things you may consider doing:

  • Have self-control when it comes to feeling and expressing your emotions. Despite the tension you may feel, try to keep your emotions under control and maintain a realistic perspective.
  • Prepare your financial documents and have them organized for quick reference if you need it during the session.
  • When anticipating the mediation process, budget your time and money so you do not spend more than you are able to comfortably pay for.
  • Do not waste your time arguing. Rather, try to engage in meaningful and focused negotiation to work towards acquiring the outcome you want.
