Utilizing workers' compensation claims in the most effective way

When a person has been injured on the job and is unable to work until full recovery takes place, he or she can file a workers' compensation claim. If his or her employer agrees to process the claim, the benefits could cover a variety of expenses that would otherwise have to be fully funded by the injured person. Whether or not the injured worker is approved of the filed claim and whether or not he or she is able to collect benefits in Kentucky is heavily reliant on how the process is approached.

According to the United States Department of Labor, workers' compensation can provide financial support for any of the following expenses:

  • Medical treatment
  • Wage replacement benefits
  • Vocational rehabilitation

Monster reminds people of some important steps in the process that have to be followed in order to have the best chance at receiving compensation and utilizing their benefits to the fullest. First, they must contact a medical provider that is in network with their employer. Once they arrive for medical treatment, they should disclose all injuries to their doctor and the timeline of events leading up to the injuries. Second, they should verify that all of those details regarding their injury have been included on the medical records for reference if questions arise in the future. Third, the should take the recommended time away from their job to fully recover. Going back sooner than recommended could negate awarded benefits. People should always inform their employer about any suspicious injuries or illnesses, even if it seems unimportant at the time.
