Appointments:

Jana Smoot White has joined the Primerus Young Lawyers Group.  She has also been asked to serve on its Membership Committee.   

Jana Smoot White served as the Chair of the Recruitment Committee for Altrusa's 2010 "Mighty Moms" event in Lexington on June 5th.  This event provides a weekend of pampering and relaxation for area mothers who have children with severe disabilities.

Jana Smoot White has been elected to the Board of Directors of Altrusa International of Lexington.  Altrusa is an international network of executives and professionals in diversified career classifications dedicated to improving their communities through personal service. Altrusa emphasizes efforts on volunteerism, service, promoting literacy and fighting against AIDS.

Elizabeth S. Feamster and Jana Smoot White have been elected to serve as Board Members of the Fayette County Bar Association Board of Directors for the upcoming year.

In The News:

Robert S. Ryan was featured in a article in the Lexington Herald Leader about the 2010 World Equestrian Games to be held in Lexington September 25th through October 10th.  As Governor-Elect of the Rotary District for Eastern Kentucky, Mr. Ryan is involved in the recruitment and organization of thousands of volunteers at the World Equestrian Games which will benefit the Rotary's campaign against polio world-wide.  Read the story here.

Fowler Measle & Bell, PLLC sponsored the kickoff event for the Kentucky Bar Association Annual Convention on June 16, 2010 at the Penguin in Lexington.  

Jana Smoot White traveled to Washington, D.C. to give the opening remarks at the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association Congressional Briefing on Pediatric stroke on behalf of the Children's Hemiplegia and Stroke Association.  In addition to speaking at the briefing, Ms. White was able to meet with Congressional staff as well as pedicatric researchers to discuss the needs for future research.  You can see photos of her journey here.

Jana Smoot White was featured as the Member's Spotlight of the Fayette County Bar Association Women Lawyers' Association for the month of May.

Matthew D. Ellison, Chris G. Colson and Paralegals Glenna R. Fugazzi, Jordan Fitchett and Brittney Wilson were speakers for the Credit Abuse Resistance Education (CARE) Program.  The mission of CARE is to educate high school students about managing their money and using credit responsibly as they begin their adult lives following graduation.

Jana Smoot White organized and hosted the 2nd annual Evening of Bowling for Pediatric Stroke Awareness at Southland Bowling Lanes in Lexington on May 7th, 2010.  This event raised over $10,000.00 for the Children's Hemiplegia and Stroke Association to assist families of children who have suffered a stroke. 

CLE Presentations:

Jerred P. Roth presented at the National Business Institute seminar titled "Collection Law from Start to Finish" on May 27, 2010, in Lexington.  Mr. Roth discussed how to collect on a judgment and the elements of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. 

Taft McKinstry presented at the 6th Circuit Judicial Conference and American College of Bankruptcy Law's seminar titled "Asset Sales, Credit Bids and Cramdown after Philadelphia Newspapers" on May 6, 2010 in Columbus, Ohio.  As a panelist, Ms. McKinstry shared her views on the decision and its potential consequeses and discuss other related bankruptcy and restructuring topics. 

Elizabeth S. Feamster and Matthew D. Ellison presented an update on Bad Faith Law to the SIU and Claims department of State Auto Insurance company on May 4, 2010 in Lexington.   

Taft A. McKinstry and John E. Hinkel, Jr. were presenters for a Primerus Bankruptcy Webinar titled "Doing Business with Chapter 11 Debtors" on March 4, 2010. 

CLE Attendance:

John E. Hinkel, Jr. will be attending the 2010 Primerus Business Law Institute Symposium June 17-18 in Chicago.  Along with an educational program, this symposium will feature presentations by executives and in-house counsel from the nation's top corporations.

Jerred P. Roth attended the Commercial Law League of America's 80th Annual Midwestern Region Conference April 28th through May 1st in Chicago.  The Commercial Law League of America is a respsected organization of attorneys and other experts in credit and finance actively engaged in the field of commercial law, bankrtupcy and insolvency. 

Christina L. Vessels attended the Defense Research Institute's Insurance Coverage and Claims Institute on April 14-16th in Chicago.  In addition to general insurance claims handling and coverage determinations, there was a significant focus on professional liability claims and on bad faith law.

Taft A. McKinstry attended the American College of Bankruptcy 2010 Induction of Class XXI Ceremony and Events in Washington, D.C. March 11-13, 2010.

Jerred P. Roth attended the 2010 IACC (International Associaion of Commercial Collectors, Inc.) annual conference in Florida. The IACC is an international trade association comprised of more than 240 collection specialists and 160 commercial attorneys.
